Burn after reading · Password optional
One-time secret links
Share a note that disappears after someone reads it. Add a password if the link might be forwarded.
Burn after reading and passwords are Pro features ($3/month or $20/year). Regular shares are free and expire after 24 hours or a week.
How one-time links work
1. Paste the secret
Type or paste the text and choose Burn after reading as the expiry. Optionally add a password.
2. Send the link
Copy the link and send it. Send any password separately.
3. Read once, then gone
The recipient clicks to reveal. The share is deleted from our servers right away.
Good uses
- A door code, Wi-Fi password or locker combination for a guest
- A temporary login you will change right after it's used
- A private message you don't want sitting in a chat history
Burn after reading cannot stop someone from copying the text or taking a screenshot once they've revealed it.
Questions
How does a one-time secret link work?
When you turn on burn after reading, the recipient sees a reveal button instead of the text. The moment they reveal it, the share is deleted from our servers and the link stops working for anyone else.
Will a chat app's link preview use up my secret?
No. Revealing the text needs a click on the page, so link previews and crawlers don't open it. We also never show burn-after-reading text in preview images.
Is the text end-to-end encrypted?
No. The text is stored on our servers until it is read or expires, and we can technically access it. For production passwords and keys, use your team's password manager. ShareText suits lower-risk handoffs like a temporary code, an address or a private note.
Can I add a password too?
Yes. Pro shares can have both a password and burn after reading, so someone who intercepts the link still needs the password. Send the password through a different channel.
What if nobody opens it?
An unread secret stays available until someone opens it. If you change your mind, delete it from your dashboard and the link stops working.
